Windymoor

Realm: Gildorath
Population: 5000
Language: Common
Once a bustling center of commerce under the rule of its ancestral Counts, Windymoor has dwindled slightly under Earl Gildorath's reign, although it remains a thriving town. Its tidy houses are built of wood and stone; most structures are one or two stories high, with an occasional three-story building rising above them. Pastures and farmed fields ring Windymoor, while a bustling market spills across three squares in its center. The town sits astride one of the major trade roads to Coeur d'Ennui, so almost anything that can be purchased in the city can also be found in Windymoor.
The Whistling Castle sits on a steep-sided hill overlooking the town. In earlier decades, farmers let their sheep and goats graze that hill, keeping it reasonably clear. Since the extinction of the Windymoor Counts, however, dark rumors have cast a fell shadow over the Whistling Castle, and locals now stay far from its empty windows and moss-covered stones. Weeds have retaken the slopes of its hill, and some say there are far more thorns and brambles among them than in bygone years.
Although Earl Gildorath has assigned some of his knights and men-at-arms to the Whistling Castle, none of them actually live there; even the staunchest of them will admit to feeling deeply uncomfortable in those echoing halls, and none has lasted longer than a few nights in the place. The knights and their men all stay at the Gilded Lily, which locals have taken to calling "Gildorath's Lily" as a result.
Windymoor has several notable places and persons within its walls, which are detailed briefly on the pages linked below. Information in parentheses is available only to those characters who have Knowledge: Coeur d'Ennui.
