Warg

image

Appearance: Wargs look like unusually large, muscular wolves with a gleam of uncanny intelligence in their eyes. They are six to seven feet from nose to tail, stand four feet high at the shoulder, and weigh over three hundred pounds. Coarse brown, gray, or black fur covers their bodies. Their teeth are longer and sharper than those of common wolves, and their eyes glow red in darkness. They are capable of their own primitive speech, which sounds like a mixture of growls, snarls, and guttural half-formed words to untutored ears.

Known Behaviors: Wargs are both more intelligent and more evil than common wolves. They enjoy the challenge of hunting sentient prey, and often band together with goblins or orcs to increase their chances of taking down humans and elves. Wargs have no interest in treasure, although they understand that their glamodrim companions do; their concern is solely in feeding and entertaining themselves by bloodsport.

Like common wolves, wargs live and hunt in packs based on family relationships. They are led by an alpha pair, whose offspring are reared cooperatively by the entire pack. Wargs rarely fight among themselves except when contesting pack leadership.

Known Range: Irontooths, Northwestern Calantyr, Ang'arta.
