The Wall Watch
Wall Watch Persons
The least politically involved of the three branches, the Wall Watch serve the most military purpose. They defend, supply and maintain the city's wall and rivers from attack. Here discipline is the most strict and many of their ranks are filled by former low-born soldiers of the Duke and his Lords. They are mostly human, reflecting the composition of the army, however there has traditionally been a large number of dwarves in the Wall Watch and that tradition continues to the present. In addition to land defenses, the Wall Watch also operates a half dozen ships of varying size which patrol the harbor and to serve in defense in the case of a sea assault. They typically take no role in policing or justice, their concern is more with external threats. However, they do patrol within ten miles of the cities boundaries, but in the case where there might be a conflict of jurisdiction between the Wall Watch, other branches of the Guard or the justice of the nearby Lords, the Wall Guard always defer.
The Wall Watch is, thusly, one of the best maintained, orderly and expert of the ranks of the Guard. Despite this, or perhaps because of it, they exist somewhat aloof from the rest of their fellow men in hauberks, and indeed, they look down upon their fellows with sometimes stern disappointment. As they have little power, or concern, for the justice of the city, they are effectively incorruptible.
