Notes
Vitail is a recent arrival to the Coeur -- once a prominent member of the Vir underworld, he, like many of his compatriots, set sail for the Coeur as the Hillmen bore down on his native city early in the summer. A shrewd businessman, he immediately considered the ways in which this migration of criminals would affect the Coeur. It now seems that he will be one of the first to profit from it. Since his arrival in the Coeur, he has worked as an ambassador for the former Vir underworld, helping the South Side gangs make the most of their new talent pool, as well as placing local thugs as bodyguards and other such roles for higher-ups from Vir. In this way he has built up goodwill for his main enterprise: the Warrens, an illegal gambling hall where thugs from the South Side gangs, and others looking to bolster their reputations, will fight for prize money. To this end he has leased and begun to furnish one of Bharzak's warehouses.Vitail is a slight, pleasant-looking man in his early forties. His skin has been baked to a permanent light-brown, and his hair has thinned and grayed to the point that it nearly matches his eyes. His voice is nasal but not unpleasantly so. He is renowned for his good humor and is considered a uniquely decent man, given his profession.
Though he is obviously quite weak physically, Vitail has something of a reputation for toughness. His face and neck -- and likely other parts as well -- bear whip and knife scars, acquired from the brutal crime-lord Ansahil Induria, under whom he apprenticed. At the age of 22, Vitail shot Ansahil several times with a crossbow, killing him. No one knows what exactly precipitated this, and it has naturally been the subject of much speculation -- but whatever version of events the reteller chooses, he always gives Vitail the benefit of the doubt.
