The Twisted Twins: Fanartharg and Illorthane

Keepers of the Cold Flame

No other deities, good or evil, are quite so monstrously inhuman as Fanartharg and Illorthane. The Twins are said to be lovers as well as brother and sister, although which is which is impossible to tell. They constantly reinvent and exchange their physical forms, although they always appear hideously misshapen.

The Twins loathe beauty in all its forms, but most especially that of the humanoid body. Very few of their followers begin as humanoids, and those seldom remain recognizable for long. The Twins are fond of “rewarding” their servants with some new and warped mutation; no two worshipers look alike. Deformed limbs, discolored pustules, grotesquely mismatched features and useless appendages stuck on at random places are characteristic among followers of Fanartharg and Illorthane.

Because of their undisguisable deformities, worshipers of the Twins are forced to spend most of their time in isolated wildernesses. Only very newest humanoid initiates, who have not yet been “gifted” with signs of the Twins' favor, can pass for normal enough to work as city contacts.

The hatred between the Twisted Twins and Falco Aerandeius is particularly vicious, and members of either faith will go to great lengths to hunt down and kill those of the other. However, because the Twins' worshipers stay out of cities and Falcons prefer to live in luxurious urban quarters, actual contact between them is limited.
