Twins'-Eye Jasper

Twins'-Eye Jasper is a newly discovered variety of orbicular jasper that is said to come from the sewer tunnels running beneath V'tavia. The tunnels were originally constructed of limestone and concrete, not jasper, and most believe that the new stone is a reaction to the prolonged presence of Habbelon the Mendicant and his underlings -- an accretion of their defiling presence, much like the limestone that precipitates out of aqueducts in cleaner places.

Twins'-Eye Jasper is a sickly green stone riddled with off-white bracchiations and misshapen red and white circles that have the appearance of being wobbly, bloodshot eyes (or, as often as not, pinkish-red eyes with white veining). It is found in thin, curved sheets suitable for sheathing pillars, facing walls, and other structural ornamentation. The stone radiates a weak but constant aura of unholiness and corruption magic.

The known powers of Twins'-Eye Jasper are twofold. First, any building that is covered to a significant degree by the jasper becomes a focal site for corruptive powers, which gain strength within, even as prayers of purity are weakened. Thus, to the extent that Twins'-Eye Jasper has any market value at all, it is to worshipers of corruptive deities who wish to strengthen their shrines.

Second, it is believed that servants of the Twisted Twins can look through the "eyes" shown on the oddly patterned jasper and thereby see what occurs in the buildings that it adorns. This is, of course, somewhat difficult to verify, but if true it is worrisome, both because it would greatly speed up communication between Twins-worshiping sects and because it would enable devotees in each sect to watch as other temples were destroyed -- and therefore learn their enemies' strengths and weaknesses, and prepare themselves accordingly for the future.

At present, Twins'-Eye jasper is not sold on the open market. Only small quantities of it are believed to have been quarried from the V'tavian sewers, and these are generally thought to have been distributed directly to other worshipers of the Twins in the area. The goodly temples, and others opposed to the Twins' agenda, have a strong interest in uncovering the transportation networks used to ferry the stone from source to recipient, and also in learning more about the jasper's properties and limitations.
