Terovist Clawstaff is the warden of Neverhope Asylum, a position he has held for just over two years. He inherited the job by default: when the previous warden was caught red-handed in a basement cell drilling holes in inmates' skulls so he could "cut the mad parts out," he was stripped of his position and Terovist, who was just passing through on a temporary rotation from the Coeur's Temple of Rathenor, was assigned to the job. Whether he has been there long enough to go mad himself is a subject of some dispute, but no one who has spent any time observing Tannoril has much doubt that the job will eventually cost Terovist his sanity if it has not already done so.
Terovist is locally known as a laconic, gloomy man with few friends. It is said that his original assignment to Neverhope was part of a punishment from his superiors in the Temple of Rathenor. No one knows what he might have done to earn such a terrible rotation, but his superiors apparently don't want him back in the Coeur, as no one has come to protest his permanent assignment as Neverhope's warden.
Another peculiarity of Terovist's tenure as warden of Neverhope is that the asylum continues to rely on physicians and chirurgists from Tannoril for medical treatment of its inmates. Although Terovist, as a priest of the Wayfinder, should have some healing ability granted by his deity, he has never demonstrated any inclination to use that on behalf of his wards. He is known to use occasional herbal remedies on the inmates, but the few visitors who bother to go to Neverhope have said that these appear to be of dubious efficacy at best. The physical health of Neverhope's population seems to have declined to the level of its psychiatric health under Terovist's watch.
