Character Creation

Skills

General and Professional Skills represent your character's areas of expertise, whether it be in creating magical potions, fighting blindly, or disarming traps. Languages represent the languages your character is familiar with, in its spoken, signed, or written form. The Knowledge section contains different areas of study. Knowledge skills represent in-depth knowledge your character may have on any one subject, be it from first-hand experience or through scholarly research. Characters without specialized knowledge skills may still be familiar with different topics, but not at the same depth as someone having the skill.

General and Professional Skills Key:

General Skills
General Skills are usually “accessory” skills which augment a character's adventuring experience. Most aren't entirely necessary for a character, but a number are useful in survival situations—you wouldn't want to go for a sail in the ocean or ford a stream without knowing at least the basics of swimming. When choosing general skills for your character a good rule of thumb is to either take “survival” skills, such as swimming, climbing or leaping, or to take the most expensive skill of a number you wish, as you can purchase others later. General skills are so-named because every class has a number of general skill slots which they can fill with any of these skills. All general skills can be selected as a "professional" skill, in lieu of another selection, and gain the usual +15 bonus where applicable.

Professional Skills
Professional skills are just that—skills which grant unto the character abilities that are typical to his profession. Thus, casters will usually gain magical theory or fast cast, while warriors will either choose a weapon speed or parry skill. Professional skills taken at creation gain a bonus of +15%. Professional skills, like all skills, may be purchased at any time after creation, but they do not gain the +15% bonus.
It is generally not recomended to take a “statless” skill with a professional slot. Warriors, for example, may take ambidexterity with professional skill slot, and while this is possible, as ambidexterity is a “general” skill without a statistic, it would be better to take it with a general skill slot.

Teaching Skills

Characters may teach one another skills provided the skill in question is:

Skills without a stat are not teachable with the exception of Weapon Proficiencies. For these, a character may teach three levels lower than his current Weapon Proficiency. For example: Someone with Weapon Proficiency IV may teach Weapon Proficiency I.

Teaching skills is a simple matter and can be handled either by email via the marketplace or an on duty GM.
