Rathenor
Wayfinder, Watcher of the Paths, Protector of Merchants and MarinersAll who walk the open road seek Rathenor's blessing before they begin. He is the god of travelers, whether by land or by sea; with his favor comes a swift journey and safe arrival. Merchants and sailors comprise much of his following, and the tithes given to Rathenor's temple ensure that it is one of the largest and wealthiest in any city that sees a significant flow of trade.
More than a guide, Rathenor is also a guardian of travelers. His followers maintain freestanding shrines that double as waystations. One of their primary duties is ensuring that the roads are kept in good repair and free of brigands, highwaymen, or monsters. In this area, his faithful sometimes cooperate with those of Ahlrigh and Athyria.
He places equal importance on aiding those lost in the wilderness and protecting those traveling between cities. Rathenor's sphere includes exploration as well as preserving the lines for profitable trade, and so he attracts a significant contingent of adventurers -- both those seeking his favor before beginning risky journeys and those who adopt his goal of seeing the roads made safe for the less well-armed.
Rathenor himself is rarely depicted in his temple's sacred objects. On the sea, the albatross is revered as his sacred bird; on land, it is the lion that serves as his chosen representative. In the few images that purport to show the god, he appears as a regal lion with eagle's wings and the face of a kindly, bearded man.
