How Councilman Rashlen of Tannoril came to that position is a mystery even to the most devoted watchers of Calantyr's politics. Prior to being elected as a Councilman in that blighted town, he had no experience in government, and indeed had been known only as a wandering bard of minor renown in Coeur d'Ennui. Dark rumors dogged his footsteps, and he never stayed in one place long.
Over a decade ago, in what is generally accepted as the last of Tannoril's remotely honest elections, Rashlen was voted into its governing Council. At the time, a few more hopeful souls thought that Rashlen might bring some fresh air into the corrupt town, as he seemed to have a genuine swell of popular support behind him. These hopes were dashed less than six months into Rashlen's tenure, as he proved to be as selfish and unscrupulous as any other Councilman.
Councilman Rashlen lives in Redspire Tower, the tallest structure in Tannoril. The massive stone tower is made of red and black marble and is surrounded by a high stone wall. Locals whisper that it is haunted by devils and contains at least one portal to the Infernal planes.
