Petitioners

Petitioners are extraplanar beings indigenous to Feindorn, the eternal plane of souls. Most petitioners of note directly serve the Judge of the Dead, Luorre, or the Queen of Eternal Sorrows, Zhardis; others, including the unclaimed souls of mortal creatures, are bound to the ghostly realm as transient memories without affiliation. The physical manifestations of petitioners are as varied as their mortal shells, from the grotesque to the divine-appearing, from the meek to the towering.

Like the plane they reside within, few petitioners are inherently good or evil. Many, like the Shades in the service of Luorre, are those souls who possessed uncompromising loyalty toward a goal that was neither particularly good nor evil in nature. Others, like the Exultants in Zhardis’s service, act according to the corrupt nature of their dark god or a personal disregard for the process of life and death. Whether through compulsion, ideological conviction, or natural dedication to their deity, petitioners are recognized as exceedingly loyal entities.

Most petitioners possess some influence over the forces of life and death. Even unclaimed wisps of souls can siphon life from unwary mortal souls who treads in their ghastly realm, and petitioners overwhelmingly possess some unfavorable bias, jealousy, or outright hatred for the living. Few petitioners concern themselves with the mortal plane, and fewer still will willingly respond to a mortal’s call.
