Osajin

Hammers in the Hills

One of the oldest gods, Osajin has lost a great deal of ground to younger and more vigorous faiths over the past centuries. He is now little-worshiped outside the windswept Ahaltic Plains, where the nomadic tribes still revere the ancient god of war. In more civilized lands, however, Osajin is viewed disdainfully as a relic of the barbaric past.

Osajin is a god of war, but he represents war as it was fought in the earliest days of human history: battles that were fought and won by individual bravery instead of massed armies. His code of honor is based on personal valor and courage, rather than the genteel courtesies favored by Athyria or the brute savagery that the worshipers of Baoz regard as the only true measure of strength. While there is certainly an element of primitive savagery in Osajin's faith, it is not so extreme as that of Baoz's people.

The barbarians who venerate Osajin are capable of admiring a defeated opponent who fought bravely and skillfully. They have little grasp of large-scale tactics or elaborate manuevers, but those are things that have no place in Osajin's faith. They and their god represent the last holders of the view that a single warrior's strength, a well-made bow and a courageous steppe pony can decide the fate of entire peoples.
