**[[NorthWatchPeople North Watch Persons]]**
The men of the North Watch are drawn mainly from the landed families of the Duchy's nobility or those merchants wealthy enough to procure their son a rank of significance. They are generally well armed, and, on the surface, procedural. Peace and order in the North is well maintained. Still, it is seen by many as merely a machine for the politics of the Couer, the career of their members more determined by tithes to the Duke and fealty than any real measure of competence or ideals of justice. To be sure, decorum is severely followed, appearances are maintained and duties are, for the most part, carried out effectively. Yet in many matters the North Watch can be disinterested or even cruel, selfish preservation often taking precedence over their sworn duties. It is better to overlook many disturbing cases where the noble and powerful are concerned, a headless guardsman is one who cannot be promoted.
The North Watch is almost exclusively human and its leaders, exclusively noble. A solitary half-elf of middling rank serves an almost ceremonial post of diversity. There are a few Paladins of Ahlrigh who hold dual posts within the North Watch and their temples, but great care is taken to assure they do not see or hear too much, fearful that zealotry might tip the fragile and comfortable balance that has been achieved. In most matters the Goodly Temples serve as advisors. In matters of import, or with the flexing of the Temple's own power, they can serve a much larger role.
