Moritas is generally believed to be the de facto leader of the vampire cabal. He is a night elf and an enchanter by specialization, though he is known to have advanced learning in other areas, including illusion and necromancy. He is also the most restrained and far-seeing of the cabal, and the only one who seems to have the strength of personality needed to keep the others in check.
Moritas was the chief lieutenant and favorite student of the lich that he ultimately betrayed and destroyed after achieving his Ascension. Other than that, nothing is known of his origins or ambitions. He is branded on both hands with serpentine markings that students of ancient history might recognize as exile's marks from one of the lost night-elven havens.
Since accomplishing the Ascension, Moritas has not been seen acting in any front-line role on the vampires' behalf. Even before that point, he rarely took the field himself; he always preferred to have others take his risks for him, and that caution seems to have increased since the second generation arrived.
