Monk
The majority of the world cannot differentiate a monk from a warrior. To the common man, a monk is merely a brawler who fights with his hands, a wrestler in the gladiator arena, or a strong man displaying feats of strength in the circus. The masses do not see the monk's dedication to an extreme—and sometimes spiritual—physical regimen which brings the monk into a greater understanding of his body.
The monk understands that his body can be forged into a weapon as effective as any blade. The path to this knowledge and ability is often an individual one; occasionally masters will pass on their knowledge to a student, and rarely a group of masters will gather a large body of students in shelter far from the distractions of wars and poverty. Some are simply brutes who can crush melons with their fists. It is usually a desire to test one's self and continually improve that leads a monk to adventuring, but sometimes it is greed.
It is truly a wonder to behold a monk battling against an armed and armored opponent. They are able to maneuver between the slashing blows of a swordsman to land twice as many of their own blows with their hands, and they do not break their fingers. They can stop a blade with their hands and not be cut. Once they have mastered their skill, they can focus their energy into a single strike at their opponent's weakest point. However, they are not warriors. They can hold their own in battle for a time, but they will not last as long as a battle hardened dwarf or a scarred mercenary
