Faïnang
Faïnang, or "white iron," is used primarily in the armaments of the high elves. It is harder and lighter than steel, but also somewhat more brittle. In its finished state it is a chalky, lustreless white.
Faïnang occurs primarily in northern Meditra, along the shores of the White Sea. Its use has thus declined with the abandonment of the sea-havens of the Elf núraquendi, whose smiths once outfitted entire armies with the metal. The northmen of the region find faïnang ill-suited to their purposes, as it is liable to fracture under the crushing blows that characterize their battles.
Mithril
The rarest and most precious substance in the world, mithril is to most only the stuff of legend. Its brilliant, silvery white, with such a luster that it seems to glow, inspired the tragic rise of Cathilcarn, the first war between Ardashir and Aridoc, and the greatest works of the aulfar smiths.
Mithril is lighter than tin and more malleable than gold. It resists scratches as well as diamond and never tarnishes. Like gold, mithril in its pure state is too soft to put to any practical use; it must first be alloyed or tempered. Both processes are notoriously difficult, and only a master smith can perform either with any degree of consistency. It is, however, well worth the effort -- properly tempered mithril is far stronger than steel, and several alloys approach this strength while bringing in other desirable qualities, not least of which being affordability.
The vast majority of the mithril in the world today was mined from Cathilcarn, though deposits once existed in Durabar as well. No mithril mines remain active today, and it is suspected that there are no significant veins left to discover.
Magical Gems
As a result of the eldritch auras permeating parts of Meditra, several types of innately magical gemstones are widely known across the continent. Stones classified as "magical gems" are a byproduct of powerful arcane radiations in the areas from which they come, rather than the result of intentional enchantments focused upon single jewels.
