//Skyline of the Methusil Fortress//
**Realm:** Sovereign (within the cultural boundaries of Ardashir)
**Population:** 15,000 free citizens
**Military:** 250
**Economy:** Flourishing; Agriculture, Fishing, Sea Trade
**Language:** Ardasi
**Applicable Knowledges:** Ardashir, Peoples and Cultures
The area of Methusil is a gray and dreary landscape plagued by a constant downpour of sea-borne storms and thunderstorms. It is mostly deprived of light, only infrequently highlighted by flashes of lightning and cloud-muted sunlight. Rivers of mud weave through the natural landscape and rain-dug trenches provide ample places for muddy ecosystems to flourish. Storm gales cut through the landscape and threaten the shingled buildings of a dense, mostly single-leveled city. The salty tang of sea air and the lingering odor of a hundred years of fishing can turn the nostrils of the most stalwart newcomers.
Located along the rocky, swell-battered southeastern coastline of [[Ardashir]], Methusil remains a storm-riddled oddity amidst an empire known for its desolate wastelands and impassible jungles. The sovereign city boasts a wide span of lush wetlands and privately-owned plantations, stretching miles into the surrounding mountainous wastelands. Methusil’s modest fortress is located on a plateau overseeing the western frontier of the Hazeth Sea and crowning an urban center that connects farms, fortress, and shore. A narrow, deep bay shielded by sheer cliffs allows the city to maintain an easily-defensible wharf: a preferable means of travel compared to the muddied and frequently washed out roads that wind into the surrounding (un-patrolled) mountains.
The independent nation boasts generous relations with its former sovereign, selling much-demanded sustenance in the form of domesticated berries, rice, and various grains that thrive in the flooded landscape surrounding the area. Methusil’s fair trading practices have allowed the city to flourish amidst Ardashir’s collapse with few conflicts. The city's cliff-flanked bay provides excellent fishing and a fully-staffed drydock for repair of the storm-battered ships that travel the treacherous coastline.
The city’s chief deity, Celestia, has fallen into disfavor since the city’s cessation from Ardashir and her [[Sunkshrine temple]] has been neglected to ruin. Despite Methusil's abandoned faith and its paultry quantity of city guards, crime and poverty within the storm-curst city are almost nonexistent. Travelers rarely withstand the miserable weather for longer than a few days, but report a cheery and charming people despite the unnerving conditions: few journeyers can resist revisiting the rain-drenched city and Methusil's numerous inns and eateries are happy to oblige these captivated foreigners.
