Manticore

Appearance: Manticores are vaguely leonine beasts that measure nine to ten feet long and weigh upwards of a thousand pounds. Their short, coarse fur ranges from deep rust-orange to dark red. Spikes run down their spines and prickle up from their shoulders and flanks. Their long, whiplike tails end in scorpions' stingers fringed with yet more long and brittle spikes, these held in loose sockets by easily snapped threads of flesh.
A manticore is a powerful hunter, and its teeth and claws reflect its predatory nature. Some subspecies possess large, leathery wings similar to dragons', while others are earthbound.
Known Range: Any temperate range or low hills.
