Magical Effects
Light and Darkness effects
Magical effects summoning bright light or powerful darkness are described as light effects or darkness effects. Light and darkness effects counter each other, with the effect with the highest caster level taking precedence. In the event of a tie, the most recently cast effect has priority.Level-based spells
Spells whose effect depends on the caster's level use the caster's level in that particular spell list, not his or her total character level. For example, if Holtin knows 20 levels of Sorcery spells and 5 levels of Enchantment spells, then he would be use 20 as his level for casting a spell such as Planar Communication (Sorcery Level 7), but 5 for his level when casting a spell such as Calm (Enchantment Level 3).A character reading a scroll or using some other magic item counts as his or her total character level regardless of what spell list the spell is from, unless otherwise specified.
