Maedhros is the general of the Baozite forces at Ang'arta. Though nominally the fortress's second-in-command, after Idriel, Maedhros's popularity among the soldiers has allowed him to challenge his superior's authority on several occasions. He serves as the fortress's public face, and to most observers he appears to enjoy greater influence than his less charismatic counterpart.Maedhros is an oddity among the Baozites, known as much for his good humor and ruthless cunning as for his prowess on the battlefield -- though the latter is usually the most immediately impressive. Those who have met with him in diplomatic contexts describe him as a cipher: charming and fair-minded, but maddeningly capricious, motivated by his amusement rather than the apparent interests of his state. Despite this, Ang'arta has flourished in his care, making inroads into the Delverness and conquering the ancient Maolite fortress Pafund Mal. Whether he actually deserves credit for this success is only a matter of speculation. In the year 1214 he married the Kliastan sorceress Liante Melyanna, helping to establish a tenuous alliance between the two churches.
The son of minor Northman nobility, Maedhros possesses the large, athletic frame typical of that tribe of Men. His handsome features are framed by thick, golden-blond hair that runs down to his shoulders. He rarely appears in public without his armor, carved from the hide of a black dragon, draped in the crimson and gold of his deity.
