**Background:** Lophari has never revealed his personal history. His accent suggests a low birth and an upbringing in the slums and on the streets. Yet someone who has been around the inn for a few years and paid close attention to the elf's speech would notice some inconsistencies, both in accent and in diction, which would raise doubts about this conclusion.

The unrevealed truth is that Lophari was born of an upper class, though not noble, family in V'tavia. The elf was well educated, and it was expected that in time he would take over a portion of his father's business, but he had other ideas. Lophari was bored by the life of a merchant, even a wealthy one. He also wanted the challenge of making his own fortune, and not simply being given a portion of his father's. At the time, a prolific catburglar was gaining notoriety in the city for increasingly audacious thefts. Rumors abounded, making the burglar larger than life, living a life of excitement. Lophari was sold, and began physically training his body for the rigors of his new career.

Wanting to make a clean break from his family, Lophari left his home during the night, heading for Coeur d'Ennui. He left a note for his parents, telling them he had taken up on a ship. The elf still sends letters home to maintain the charade. He has not seen his parents since. Lophari arrived at the Coeur with only the clothes on his back, and a few early experiences demonstrated the necessity of shedding his birth while on the streets. He began with a few petty crimes, sneaking into a few shops in the slums at night and, if lucky, making off with a few overlooked coins.

In time, Lophari met a few other thieves and began to work his way into the Coeur's underworld, along with learning more about his craft. Soon after, he learned about the Parthenon. Lophari chided himself for not thinking of it before. Adventuring would be an ideal way to earn his fortune, and an even better path to fame than catburglary.

Although the bulk of his time is spent on tasks through the Parthenon, Lophari still considers himself first and foremost a thief, though he would never admit to the term, using the common euphemism "scout" to describe his particular skill set. The elf prides himself on being "professional," by which he means letting nothing get in way of the job and being loyal to coworkers, at least those who are likewise professional. This may be the only morality the elf professes.
