==**Knowledge Points**==
Each knowledge skill has a Knowledge Point cost. A character can spend a number of Knowledge Points equal to his IQ/10. Each Knowledge Point up to the IQ/10 limit costs 75 XP. For example, let's take a character with 40 IQ who has already purchased 2 KPs' worth of knowledge skills. If he wishes to purchase another knowledge skill with a KP cost of 2, he must spend 150 XP.

Once the character reaches his IQ/10 limit, he may continue to buy knowledge skills. However, each KP beyond this limit costs 150 XP, rather than 75 XP.

Let's suppose the character in our previous example wishes to purchase another knowledge skill worth 2 KPs. This would give him a total of 6 KPs -- two above his limit. This skill would therefore cost 300 XP.

A character starts with one "free" KP -- this counts toward his IQ limit, but does not cost XP. The character can choose not to use the KP.

There are two types of knowledge skills: regional knowledge, and topical knowledge.

==**Regional Knowledge**==
Regional knowledge represents the character's knowledge of the history, culture, and geography of the specified region. In general, the size of the region should be dependent on the population. Regions costing 1 KP include:

- Ang'arta, Adenhault, and the Southern Delverness
- Coeur d'Ennui: The city and its major landholdings (what's shown on the Mid-Range Calantyr Map)
- Northwestern Calantyr: The region that's over a week's ride from any cities.
- The Spinning Winds
- V'tavia: The city of V'tavia and the lands within a week's ride.
- The southern Twelve Kingdoms (Sebiland, Ironfell, [[Porphia]], South Hold)
- The central Twelve Kingdoms (Thelyand, [[Faelbyn]], Seawatch, Langmyr)
- The northern Twelve Kingdoms (Breidhel, Mirhain, Northmarch, Oakharn)
- Tartessos

Regions costing 2 KP include:

- Ardashir

==**Topical Knowledge**==
Topical knowledge, naturally, represents the character's knowledge of a single broad subject.

__**1 KP**__
- Agriculture: Livestock and the cultivation of plants.
- Art and Architecture: Major movements and figures in architecture and the visual arts.
- Beasts and Monsters (Region): Detailed knowledge of the creatures that populate a specified 1-KP region.
- Ecology (Alpine/Subarctic, Desert, Sea, Subterranean, Tropics): The selected ecology and how best to survive in it.
- Engineering: Mechanical and structural engineering as understood prior to 1600.
- Geography: All aspects of physical geography.
- Literature: Myths and legends, literary forms and styles.
- Performing Arts: Dance, music, theater, and major movements and figures in each performing art.
- Politics: Major political bodies and what they're after.
- Symbols: Cryptography, steganography, and pattern-recognition in general.
- Warfare: Tactics, siege engines, and who employs what.

__**2 KPs**__
- Arcana: Arcane symbols, magical beasts, and scholarly magic in general.
- Cosmology: The planes, their nature, and their inhabitants.
- History: Political and military history; major events and figures that have shaped the civilized world.
- Peoples and Cultures: Anthropological linguistics, ethnicity, customs and institutions of major cultures.
- Religion: Symbols, tenets, rites, and factions of major religions. Fiends, celestials, and undead.
- Witching: Faeries, undead, superstitions, orc-kin, giant-kin, trolls, magical herbs, and folk magic in general.

__**3 KPs**__
- Artistry (Art or Craft) - Extensive knowledge of the theory behind the specified art or craft. A character must possess the appropriate A&C skill before purchasing this skill. A character with this skill is considered a "master" in the specified art or craft. A character with expert knowledge in this skill is considered a "grandmaster."

==__**Expert Knowledge**__==
A character may spend an additional KP on a knowledge skill that he has already purchased. He is then considered to have "expert knowledge" in that area. A character may be an expert in as many fields as he likes, subject to the standard IQ limit.
