The Knowledge System

Knowledge Points
Each knowledge skill has a Knowledge Point cost. A character can spend a number of Knowledge Points equal to his IQ/10. Each Knowledge Point up to the IQ/10 limit costs 75 XP. For example, let's take a character with 40 IQ who has already purchased 2 KPs' worth of knowledge skills. If he wishes to purchase another knowledge skill with a KP cost of 2, he must spend 150 XP.

Once the character reaches his IQ/10 limit, he may continue to buy knowledge skills. However, each KP beyond this limit costs 150 XP, rather than 75 XP.

Let's suppose the character in our previous example wishes to purchase another knowledge skill worth 2 KPs. This would give him a total of 6 KPs -- two above his limit. This skill would therefore cost 300 XP.

A character starts with one "free" KP -- this counts toward his IQ limit, but does not cost XP. The character can choose not to use the KP.

There are two types of knowledge skills: regional knowledge, and topical knowledge.

Regional Knowledge
Regional knowledge represents the character's knowledge of the history, culture, and geography of the specified region. In general, the size of the region should be dependent on the population. Regions costing 1 KP include:

Regions costing 2 KP include:

Topical Knowledge
Topical knowledge, naturally, represents the character's knowledge of a single broad subject.

1 KP

2 KPs

3 KPs

Expert Knowledge
A character may spend an additional KP on a knowledge skill that he has already purchased. He is then considered to have "expert knowledge" in that area. A character may be an expert in as many fields as he likes, subject to the standard IQ limit.
