Distinguishing Marks: Rough, circular scar at the back of her neck; this is usually concealed by her hair.
Effects: Kiris always wears a circular pendant made of glass rimmed with gold. Inside the glass section of her pendant is a spoonful of loose dirt. When not adventuring, she prefers simple and durable outdoorsman's clothing; when she expects to see combat, she wears armor crafted from bands of tarred sharkskin.
Pet: Shaggy golden puppy named Pup-Pup, brighter than most dogs but otherwise apparently unremarkable.
Background: While growing up in Coeur d'Ennui, Kiris occasionally saw adventurers riding to and from the city. From an early age she was fascinated by their exotic appearances and exciting tales, but -- like most sane citizens -- she kept her distance and never considered joining their ranks. Listening to their stories over a glass of wine at the local taverns was as close as she ever came to the adventurer's life.
When it came time for her to get a job, Kiris began working for Rose's Apothecary, a halfling-owned business that sold herbs and medicines downstairs and housed expecting mothers upstairs. Rose specialized in pregnancy and its complications -- and means of avoiding both, if the customer desired. This work left the halfling with little time to harvest herbs that could not be grown or purchased readily in the city, so she often sent Kiris into the nearby woods to seek out rarer plants for customers' maladies. Along the way, the young elf picked up a fair amount of plant lore and woodscraft.
It wasn't until Kiris met a woman by the name of Jaesel Leafrunner, however, that her life took a turn for the complicated. Jaesel was an ex-adventurer who had gotten pregnant by one of her companions and decided to keep the child, though the relationship had foundered soon after she became aware of it. To while away the time at the end of her pregnancy, Jaesel struck up a friendship with the green-haired elf and shared much of her experience with the adventuring life -- the good, the bad, and the frequently inexplicable.
After Jaesel had her baby and left Rose's, Kiris found herself daydreaming over the stories and wondering what it might be like to live through some of those experiences. Around the same time, she discovered that she had a spark of aptitude for druidic magic. As she had no idea where to find a teacher who could help her cultivate that gift, Kiris decided to try the Parthenon and kill two birds with one stone. She ventured to the notorious inn, and then out on a series of adventures with various patrons.
Much of what she saw was deeply disturbing, even traumatizing, and after a few months Kiris lost her taste for "adventures" that were, in her mind, more horrifying than heroic. Some of the people she met truly seemed to be champions of good and protectors of the weak, but many more were simply mercenary or worse -- and they never shed a tear for companions killed at their sides. Unable to justify risking her life for their profits, Kiris eventually returned to Rose's Apothecary and the welcome simplicity of a safer life. There she remains, undecided as to whether she'll ever want to scrape the rust from her blade and the dust from her armor and take to the road again.
