Residence: Kaeru makes no effort to hide his residence. He lives in an abandoned temple in the Old City. There he works on restoring the structure while providing aid to the few worshippers who still frequent the building.
Character Background: Kaeru originally hails from New Haven, a small town in Faelbyn a days ride from the old capital city of Otessa. Obviously an orphan, Kaeru's human "parents" ran the town's smithy. They took him in as an infant and raised him on chores and discipline. Kaeru was the only half orc in the town and faced discrimination if not outright hatred every day. The people of New Haven tolerated him for lack of an alternative, but they made no efforts to hide their discontent. As a result Kaeru developed a very humble and tentative personality. At the age of ten Kaeru met a charismatic and energetic older boy named Camus. The two quickly became closest friends. Camus lived in the old imperial capital Otessa. As time went on Kaeru began to spend less and less time at his home in New Haven and more time with Camus in Otessa. Camus eventually became a knight in service to Duke Bocharelli, with Kaeru as his squire. At first Kaeru found the same oppression he found in New Haven, but because of his skill with the sword and winning personality in addition to an intuitive knack for leadership, Camus quickly became a knight of the highest caliber, revered by everyone and thought of as a hero, respected even among the ranks of other noble's knights. This made things easier for Kaeru, and he actually found a begrudging acceptance among his peers, yet even then Kaeru caught glares from others. He suspected without Camus's friendship and influence the tentative acceptance would quickly erode. Among other duties Camus was tasked with serving as the personal bodyguard to the Duke's daughter, Elmyra. Due to his station and no doubt in large part because of Camus's charm, speculation of a romance surrounded the two.
Other, more sombre rumors circulated of escalating tensions with the neighboring kingdom of Seawatch to the north. One day Camus was deployed by Duke Bocharelli along with reinforcements to personally protect the northen border. Kaeru stayed behind to carry on Camus's bodyguard duties for Princess Elmyra. A few weeks passed with no word. During this time Kaeru and Elmyra became close. She was the second real friend Kaeru had ever had. Eventually news came of Camus's emminent return. Kaeru's excitement quickly faded to dread however when he realized the reason behind the return... Camus was to be executed. He had killed a superior officer on the northern border. Before his execution Kaeru spoke to his friend one last time. Camus told him to become a good knight, and to never stand by while innocents were being harmed. With these instructions in his heart, and after consoling and saying his goodbyes to Elmyra Kaeru started off. His travels took him through the southeastern Twelve Kingdoms, from Theyland to Ironfell. He passed through Ang'arta, where he helped some travelers and farmers, and stopped in V'tavia. Everywhere he went he was met with persecution, yet Kaeru still held high hopes, and did his best to help those in need. He spent some time in V'tavia where he discovered the Athyrian faith. To his dismay, even there he could not find acceptance. Continuing along the coast Kaeru passed through the Three Rivers before arriving in the Coeur d'Ennui.
Kaeru now searches for a purpose, having found a possibility in the Parthenon establishment. He lives in an abandoned church in the Old City where he privately worships Athyria. There, he aids the worshippers who still come in what ways he can. Much of his oddjob work is the result of word of mouth from the worshippers and other people he has helped.
