Excessive sweating plagues sufferers all over the world from fresh teens to senior citizens. Although the impact of excessive sweating is relative to the person, treatment options are being requested by people all over the world. There are many treatment options for excessive sweating, some of which may be better for you than others. Depending on your lifestyle and the severity of your excessive sweating, some treatment options would be great for you while others may not work that effectively.

On average, 2-3% of Americans suffer from axillary hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating of armpits), palms, and soles of the feet. The problem usually begins around puberty and can become extremely embarrassing for socially driven people. If this problem doesn't get treated it may continue throughout life without being solved. Excessive sweating can put a damper on self-esteem, a key thing for any teen to be happy.

Treatment options depend on the triggers for your excessive sweating. Among the treatment options are the over-the-counter antiperspirants. The "natural" antiperspirants often contain less harmful chemicals but are not as effective while antiperspirants containing aluminum chloride have proven to be more effective (because of the aggressive chemicals). Prescription antiperspirants contain aluminum chloride hexahydrate, a strong compound that needs to be regulated like any typed of "drug" because of the potential severity of side effects. This is a much more intense version of the OTC antiperspirants and should be used only if there are no other options.

Herbal medications are available to serve as a treatment although mostly with little success. Various oral medications, lotions, and injection of botox are available although the treatments will usually last a short period of time.

Excessive hand sweating can easily be treated with a surgery. The Los Angeles Center for Hyperhidrosis offers some of the best surgeons in the field. The procedure involves entering the thoracic cavity and disrupting the sympathetic chain that causes excessive hand sweating. Patients that undergo this procedure go home the same day. Success rate is 98-99% for this procedure.

A new procedure has been introduced in 2005 known as the lumbar sympathectomy for people suffering from excessive foot sweating. The procedure provides relief for 98-99% of the patients. Many people who have hyperhidrosis for their hands have it on their feet and will usually want this procedure as well. Most people do the hand surgery first because sweaty hands will be more socially and functionally troubling than feet.

Excessive underarm sweating can be treated with a surgery when all other conservative methods have failed.
