Illusionist
The illusionist is a manipulator of light and sound, one who uses his arts to bring his fancies and visions into vivid, if temporary, reality. Benevolent illusionists delight in creating spectacular magical shows for the entertainment of others; malicious ones use their spells to deceive others for profit or mischief. Wealthy nobles may employ illusionists to enliven their courts with brilliant displays of music and color. Thieves' guilds hire them to silence a catburglar's steps, conceal wicked traps, or create dramatic diversions to draw off the guard. An unscrupulous jeweler might pay an illusionist to add an artificial sparkle of diamond to his cheap cut-glass gems.
Illusion tends to draw people with a streak of the trickster in their natures; it is no accident that both Tikumai and Anvhad count many illusionists among their faithful. Practicioners of the art range from flashy, spotlight-hunting showmen to shadowy figures who prefer to appear with other people's faces when they reveal themselves at all. Perhaps more than any other class, illusionists follow their own idiosyncratic motives in choosing a life of adventure.
The illusion spell list is more specialized, and simultaneously more nebulous, than any other. Virtually any sensory effect imaginable can be created through illusion, but affecting objective reality is difficult for all but the most accomplished in the art. Illusionists are equally adept at offense and defense in combat, although non-sentient threats present a major problem to them until they achieve enough mastery to create spells that are semi-real rather than pure phantasm. Perhaps the greatest strength of the list is in its array of versatility effects: a good illusionist has a trick up his sleeve for almost every situation imaginable
