Halflings are simple people. They live in balance with nature, working fields with adequate skill and using simple tools. Anything more complex than water-powered mill is unheard of. Also, since halflings are not very good as warriors (due to their size) they developed strong racial sense of group trust. Never will one halfling cheat on another of his race and interracial conflicts are usually of verbal kind that settles by the next morning sunrise.

Halflings tend toward what they refer to as "good living". Simple living place, patch of land or honest trade, mate and children, full dining table is what each halfling craves for. Whenever some of these are missing halflings speak of "strange times" or "strange living". When all is missing, "dark times" or "dread times" is abound.

Most halflings are just a bit overweight (if allowed by their living conditions) since they are known as great connoisseurs of food and cooking. Also, their cooking skill is unmatched by any other race. They lean toward basic food, with minimum spice to accentuated specific taste. Any king worth his salt has at least one halfling chef as their personal cooks.

Halflings have no social class system. Any halfling can be whatever he wants to be, and most stick to those trades in which they show progress. Those few positions of "power" (which usually deal with feast preparation and children education) are mostly assigned to those of elderly status, mostly to recompense for their lessened ability to work (due to their age). Law enforcment is "self-running", meaning that each and every halfling is expected to do his best to ensure normal functions of society. Halflings do not have regular military, but in times of need, halflings will organize militia formed of those able and/or experienced in combat or supportive skills (ex-adventurers, hunters, healers, etc.). Halflings rarely mount offensive full-scale strikes, usually relying on defensive positions or small-groups guerrilla combat if necessary.

Term "family" is extremely vague to halflings. Considering that average couple has four to ten children, and since most of these live up to their adulthood (due to halflings' ability to survive against the odds), any halfling society is interwoven with strong "family ties". Whenever halfling refers to "family" he usually refers to his home village. Each child is his child, each elder is his elder. Probably only exception of this is choice of mate. Each halfling is expected to find mate out of his immediate blood relation. Any same-blood relation is frowned upon, and may end in exile of couple, depending on situation.

Halflings are obsessed with "good living" (this instinct insures their race survival). When halflings passes age of 50, he is expected to marry and engage in improvement society. If halfling fails this, he will feel that "something is missing". Halflings also love good cuisine (cooking) to the point of ignoring everything else while eating, [[http://supremeessays.com buy essay]]. They will not willingly enter obvious traps or accept strange food offerings.

Due to their strong racial sense, each halfling met outside their village is regarded as friend and good fortune (unless proven otherwise).

Halflings refer to themselves as "people" and to humans as "big people" or "big folk".

====__**Halfling Sub-races**__====

**Hairfeet halflings (Kuduk)**
Hairfeet, the most common halflings, are named for the downy hair that grows on the tops of their feet, and tend to go barefoot in all but the coldest of weather. They are an average of about 3 feet tall, although they are stockier in build than humans. They exhibit the whole range skin and eye colors that exist in the world. These halflings live closest to humankind, working at such careers as brewers, farmers, bakers, and cobblers. They are often found living near or around large cities.

Now the hairfoot halflings believe in doing as little as possible to get the job done (but doing it right). For example, a hairfoot farmer may tend a smaller field than the human farmer and spend half his time lying in the shade smoking a pipe, yet at the end of the season both farms will have brought the same yield due to clever irrigation and crop rotation techniques the halfling farmer employed.

**Tallfellow halflings (Fallohides)**
The tallfellow halflings are named for their height, standing an average of 4 feet tall and much thinner than their hairfeet cousins. The tallfellows exist in significant numbers in temperate woodland areas, through out Calantyr and the Ahaltic Plains. Tallfellows tend towards wearing long hair, clothes in woodland shades of brown, yellow, and green, and often have a small brightly colored hat. This is the longest lived of all halfling races, with a number of documented cases of tallfellows reaching their 250th birthday.

Tallfellows have as much in common with elves as they do with other halflings. They tend to live above ground, in spacious wooden homes with ceilings at least 6 feet tall, to better serve their elven and human guests, and tend toward careers such as loggers, shepherds, and hunters.

**Stout halflings (Stoors)**
The stout halfling are a little more uncommon than the hairfeet, but are still a very common subrace. Stouts are named for their girth. The average stout is slightly shorter then a hairfoot, but weighs in at 150 percent of what the average hairfoot does, and this isn't just fat. The stouts are a strong race with an affinity for wrestling and similar friendly competition.

These halflings do not show the racial diversity that the hairfeet do. Most stouts appear to be of something similar to northern races descent with blond and red hair most common. Unlike most other halflings, male stouts can grow facial hair. This usually manifests itself in the form of muttonchop sideburns and the occasional handlebar mustache.

These halflings tend to dress for utility, favoring leather clothing and boots (stouts almost always wear shoes), although every stout will have a fancy outfit hidden away for special occasions. The stouts tend to gravitate towards classical Dwarven skills, such as mining and mushroom farming, although they are also excellent river fishermen. Unlike their hairfeet cousins, the stouts put forth a lot of effort at their chosen professions, even surpassing Dwarven quality for some very rare goods.
