Effects: Gnord is always seen wearing the entire pelt of a large wolf, with silver and white fur, draped across his shoulders. Little has been done to fashion this into an actual cloak except the addition of a small chain to prevent it from falling to the ground. While at the Parthenon, Gnord is usually seen wearing a highly polished set of leathers, and when venturing out to battle, with a brilliant silver helm in the shape of a lion's maw.
Weapons: Gnord carries only several braces of throwing axes strapped to his hips and thighs, and while fighting, wraps a thick, studded band of leather around his giant fists.
Background: Shortly after coming of age, Gnord ventured forth from his tribe's village. His original purpose was to learn more about the ways of the southlands and to improve his combat abilities. In time, he planned to permanently return to his village, likely serving as Huntmaster under his elder brother, the future chief. In this role, Gnord would serve not only as leader of hunting parties, but more importantly would be responsible for the tribe's defensive efforts against slavers and the occasional band of orcs or goblins.
The tribe is part of the larger Icefell clan, and its village is located in the steppes just southeast of the foothills of the Spinning Winds. Due in part to this location, the tribe has abandoned some of the traditional AEsir lifestyle, with the importance of hunting waning as years progress. Gnord's father began this process, convincing his tribe to serve as a liaison between human traders and the AEsir tribes to the north which still exclusively follow the Old Ways, many of which are still highly xenophobic or even violent toward non-AEsir. This decision has made the tribe relatively prosperous, though some of the tribe has expressed discontent with what they perceive to be the increasing adoption of a human or southern lifestyle. Additionally, many human traders continue to attempt to take advantage of the AEsir, who they tend to consider stupid. This is in part due to the recent introduction of the common tongue and the AEsirs' difficulty with it.
Of particular note is the tribe's limited use of metal. Traditionally, the tribe used only bone, tusk, or stone for tools, having no mining capabilities, nor the smithing capability to fashion anything useful out of lumps of iron occasionally found on hunts. With trading now occuring with southern humans, the tribe has been able to trade for some axeheads and other metal tools, but the limited supply is used excusively for woodcutting and other peaceful purposes. Members of the tribe, male and female, have traditionally trained to fight without weapons -- and still do. Hunters, exclusively male, also train with throwing axes or bone-tipped spears, though these are used as a last resort, when the hunters' normal strategy to surround and capture its prey fails, or is impossible due to small numbers. As such, Gnord does not consider his unarmed fighting style strange or noteworthy, and is indeed confused when others try to ascribe names like "monk" to him.
Since coming to the Coeur, Gnord has reconsidered his future. Although he still feels a loyalty to his clan, father, and brother, he increasingly feels that his talents may be most needed elsewhere. Gnord sees his role as a protector to those who are defenseless, those who do not possess his own natural talent for combat. He is not a crusader, and does not envision the world as a battle of good against evil. Though he considers warring against evil an admirable purpose, his own focus is on aiding those who need help -- though often there is no practical consequence of this distinction. In the Coeur, Gnord has discovered threats he could have never imagined, threatening large numbers of people, with only a small band of adventurers standing between these threats and the helpless.
