Gnoll

image

Appearance: Gnolls are furry, hyenalike glamodrim that stand six and a half to seven feet tall and weigh around three hundred pounds. Their fur is most often dirty yellow or tan, spotted with rosettes in dark brown or black. Their clothes and armor are made up of crudely tanned hides and whatever scraps they can scavenge or plunder from more civilized races. Gnolls' speech is broken up with yips, growls and barks regardless of the language they use.

Known Behaviors: Gnolls live in small tribes linked by common ancestry. They rarely inhabit permanent settlements, preferring a nomadic lifestyle, but will sometimes move into ruins of human fortresses, natural cave complexes, or other structures that are easily fortified and defended. Gnolls like to keep slaves as both workers and a source of food when hunting and raiding fails them; any gnoll encampment will have at least one slave for every five gnolls living there.

While gnolls sometimes strike up alliances with other glamodrim, their dim-witted greed and violent tendencies tend to ensure that any such alliance is short-lived. Their company is even less pleasant than that of orcs or hobgoblins, and so evil lords with the opportunity to choose their servants rarely resort to gnolls.

Known Range: Temperate near-wastelands, including the foothills of the Irontooths and stretches of Northwestern Calantyr.
