Frost Giant

image

Appearance: Frost giants stand thirteen to fifteen feet tall and weigh upward of two thousand pounds. Their skin is pallid white, sometimes with a faint ivory hue, and their hair tends to be glacial blue or the yellow of dirty ice. Most frost giants have cold blue eyes. Their proportions are comparable to those of AEsirs; frost giants tend to be proportionally more muscular and heavy-featured than humans. They favor fur and leather clothes with ornaments of amber, bone and ivory. Frost giant warriors wear metal armor as a token of wealth and success, since coming by enough fire-forged metal to outfit a frost giant is no cheap proposition in their homelands.

Known Customs: Frost giants live in clans headed by chieftains or jarls. They commonly hew great fortresses out of mountains or glaciers, adorning them with surprisingly fine statues and ornamental arches of ice stained with exotic dyes. Since ice never melts in the frigid fortresses that these giants call home, these sculptures are as permanent to them as the stone treasures in dwarven kings' halls.

Frost giants are avid raiders and plunderers. They keep captives -- though often not for very long, given the inhospitability of their fortresses for most lesser beings -- and also keep animals as beasts of war. Polar bears and winter wolves are particular favorites of these giants, though frost giants have been known to keep young white dragons as pets as well. They are contemptuous of lesser peoples and will seldom willingly work with, or for, smaller creatures.

Known Range: The icy lands around the White Seas are home to frost giants, as are the highest reaches of the Cathilcarn Mountains and the Spinning Winds.
