Fiends

"Fiend" is a classification that applies to any extraplanar being native to the Abyss, whether to the Abyss proper or to the devils' realm of Pandemonium. Both devils and demons are considered fiends, but the term also encompasses creatures such as nightmares, which can serve either.
All fiendish beings are inherently evil. Fiendish animals exist along with the better-known forms; these tend to be dull, sickly colors with occasional flares of bright hues such as blood-red and sulphurous yellow. Fiendish animals are often spiked, carapaced, and venomous or toxic, even when their mortal counterparts are not. They do not age, and when on their home plane they have no need to eat, drink or sleep, though they may choose to do so for pleasure.
Fiendish creatures may serve in the various demon-lords' and archdevils' armies to further their own ambitions or indulge their love of violence; alternatively, they may be enslaved and forced into servitude. Others ignore the machinations of those hellish forces and pursue their own more obscure goals in the writhing infinity of the Abyss.
Fiends who have the opportunity to visit Bierilon may breed with mortals. This can be the result of deception, force, or -- in the case of the truly depraved -- voluntary copulation, and may create half-fiendish offspring. Half-fiends are distinguished by marks of their immortal parentage, such as batlike wings, fiery eyes, or scaled skin. They are regarded as evil monstrosities by their mortal kin, and this is almost always an accurate assessment.
