Character Descriptions
Eidolon Bliss
Name: Eidolon "Eden" Bliss
Race: Elf
Class: Enchanter
Band: Green
Gender: Male
Height: 6' 0” (1.8 m)
Weight: Won't tell, around 165 lbs. (75 kg)
Eyes: Blue
Hair: Blonde, usually cut short
Distinguishable Marks: A small mark of an ivory falcon haloed by a golden sunburst adorns the back of his neck. Other than this mark, Eden conspicuously lacks any of the usual scars or disfigurements that most of the inn's patrons bear. He is also exceptionally good looking.
Occupation: Council Member of Westgate Temple
Effects: Eden's wardrobe is extensive and varied, and is inevitably of high quality. Indeed, even after "dressing down" for a job, Eden's clothing will usually make him stand out in a group of patrons. A careful observer might realize his clothing is magical, as any burns or tears it suffers on an adventure have a tendency to disappear. He often carries a goldenwood staff with a milky white crystal set atop of it, although when he is in a bad mood he'll carry an oaken staff with a bronze dragon head cap. He also often wears an ivory medallion with a gold falcon in the center, strung upon a simple silver chain. Eden carries no obvious weapons.
Familiars: Eden is often accompanied by one of two creatures: Arete, a golden eagle gifted with divine magic; and Morderi, a sleek cat with iridescent blue fur who (some claim) is capable of speech.
Character background: Eden's background is the subject of much speculation. He claims to be from V'Tavia, although if this is true it cannot be the entire truth; there few elven families in the capital, and none of them claim Eden as a blood relative. Regardless of what the truth may be, Eden used to serve as Westgate's liaison to the Falcon faith in V'Tavia, and is known in the courtly circles there. His refusal to divulge his age complicates any efforts to discover more about his past - it would be difficult to even know what century to start in. His detractors often claim such evasions disguise a low birth or common heritage, but will rarely make such claims to his face.
Eden's history of involvement with the Falcon church is also a murky subject. No one really knows for how long he has been an adherent or where he received his training. This has led to more suspicious claims by his detractors, but has also generated claims among some of the more fanatical and naive worshippers that Eden was sent by Falco himself to lead the faith into a new golden era. Eden never openly acknowledges such claims (an act which could be interpreted as heresy), but is careful never to disavow them.
What is known for sure is that Eden has been a long-time friend and confidant of the current leader of the Westgate Council, the human paladin Artur din Calot. Only recently has Eden gained status in the temple that is independent of his relationship with Artur. When Eden first came to Westgate, he gained some limited notoriety as a "problem solver." Although none but Eden and Artur know how often the elf's services were used in this capacity, Eden's name is linked to the disappearance of a number of former members of the faith who threatened to reveal temple secrets or whose apostasy was too public. Some of the names included among these rumors were that of the popular singer Gianca della Carlo, and more recently those of two members of the Parthenon, Enaris Betak and his lover, Isis. (Eden would be quick to point out, however, that Enaris was never a member of Westgate.)
Eden's rise to fame within Westgate began with the discovery of the Fountain of Beauty, a long lost Falcon holy site, the location of which even the most skilled Falcon augurs were unable to divine. Eden also created the teleportation network which allows access to the Fountain from Westgate -- a very lucrative source of income for the temple. After bringing back news of his discovery of the Fountain, Eden became something of a local celebrity. Not a very public figure beforehand, Eden's sudden fame generated quite a few bizarre rumors. Some of the stranger of these rumors claim that Eden used to have a different and less attractive body, that he used to be a member of a cult that worshiped a wish-granting demon, and that Artur din Calot had brainwashed him to be an assassin for the temple.
Since the discovery of the Fountain, Eden's unusual habits and exploits have been the subject of continued gossip. Some tell stories of a tempestuous love affair between Eden and a mysterious elven woman who, if such stories are to be believed, rose to power and notoriety in the city's Kliastan circles as suddenly as Eden did at Westgate. Some claim that she jilted him in favor of a new lover and left the city forever. Others still claim they occasionally see the two together at one or another of the city's more exclusive restaurants or theaters. Eden is also known to associate with mercenaries as well as members of the city's goodly temples. Eden often makes known his opinion that Westgate has much in common with the Celestian and Athyrian faiths, and is known in those temples as someone with a fierce devotion to the elimination of profane faiths, such as the worship of Maol and the Twisted Twins.
Eden's most recent controversy involves his election to the governing body of Westgate Temple after a long absence serving as the temple's V'Tavian liaison. No one knows precisely how, but Eden and Artur were able to engineer a political coup that displaced Artur's primary political rival, the andafox Anadese Syrufin, while simultaneously guaranteeing Artur leadership of the Council and Eden his own seat. There are rumors that Eden found or fabricated evidence of Syrufin's heresy. Whispered tales also exist of a horribly disfigured man in Eden's employ who threatened the life of Syrufin's son, the paladin Kierese. These rumors also hint at a destroyed friendship between Eden and Ryen Debrui, the human inquisitor who also gained a seat in the aftermath of Syrufin's sudden withdraw from temple politics. Those who know both men better say the two have always hated one another.
The current composition of the Council is Artur, Artur's wife Decepa, Eden, Ryen, and the elderly priestess Imina de Cour. Surprisingly, the personal relationships between many of the members have not led to the formation of any stable voting blocks. The Council prefers to present its decrees unanimously, but those who work near its meeting chambers tell of frequent and heated arguments, especially in recent months following Imina's mysterious sickness and slow recovery to health.
