Druid
The druids' way of life is intimately linked with nature. They are the protectors and defenders of the wilderness, often setting themselves against the encroachments of “civilization” as well as unnatural ravages such as demons and undead. Many druids are ill at ease in the crowded confines of the city, preferring to spend their time in peaceful solitude under the open sky.
Adventuring druids have often been roused to action by some threat to their beloved wild lands. It is uncommon, though not unknown, for one to venture into the city for a lesser motive, such as mere curiosity. Most deplore the corruption, greed, and inequities that characterize urban society, and avoid it when they can. There is a particular tension between druids and elementalists, since the latter's massively destructive spells often wreak great damage on the surrounding land as well as the intended targets. While the druid seeks to live in harmony with the forces of nature, the elementalist crudely bends them to her will. The difference in philosophy is subtle but profound.
Druids are primarily spellcasters, though they also possess a handful of unique powers relating to animals and the protection of specific hallowed lands. Their magic draws upon nature as its source and encompasses a wide range of curative, offensive, defensive and auxiliary abilities. The versatility of their spells makes druids one of the best all-around casters for an adventuring party, and they are more proficient with their weapons than are mages. In addition, their talent with herbs can make them invaluable healers. However, they lack the specialized training that mages possess, and often cannot match focused battlemages for sheer destructive power.
