Dread Boar

Appearance: Dread boars are up to fifteen feet long and over six high at the shoulder, and commonly weigh over three thousand pounds. Adults have coarse brown, gray, or black fur. Their eyes are very small for their size. Their snouts are proportionally longer and thinner than those of domestic pigs, and their bodies more heavily muscled than those of wild boars. Both males and females have large upper and lower tusks, which they use to attack.
Known Range: Dread boars once roamed across Calantyr and the Twelve Kingdoms, and ranged as far south as Ardashir, where they were hunted by kings and immortalized in tapestry. They have since been hunted down to a small fraction of their original range, both as a demonstration of individual hunters' bravery and skill and to reduce the damage that their depredations inflicted on fields and livestock.
Today, dread boars are rare in the Coeur d'Ennui, though they are still glimpsed in the Gildwood, the Smokewood, and the Westwood. Whether they live in the Elven Wood is unknown, as few are eager to venture into that reputedly enchanted forest. Sporadic efforts have been made to tame the beasts for use in war, but they are too foul-tempered for most to handle, and these attempts have never been successful on a large scale.
