(Councilman) Mr. Dory

Realm: The Tidemarshes
Town: Tannoril
Rank: Councilman (local government)

Notes:

Mr. Dory -- not "Councilman Dory," and certainly never just "Dory" -- is one of the governing Councilmen of Tannoril. He is fastidious about his name.

Several years back, Mr. Dory had a spell of sickness that left him indisposed and temporarily removed him from the Council. When he recovered, it was with an unsightly skin condition. Mr. Dory was left with a ghastly pallor and a susceptibility to thick, viscous nosebleeds. He also has difficulty focusing his eyes. Nevertheless, these cosmetic issues do not appear to have impaired his ability to serve as a Councilman, although they have rather dampened his social life. Mr. Dory is a recluse who is seldom seen outside of work.

Meanwhile, the Councilman who had temporarily occupied Mr. Dory's seat had an accident.

Mr. Dory lives near the docks, not far from Sliris' shipping concern. The two are not friends. Exactly where Mr. Dory lives is unclear, but the block rumored to include his home is often the source of foul odors -- and in Tannoril, a stench must be truly terrible to be noticed above the general miasma -- and strange, discolored oozes that trickle down to the sea. There are no alchemists known to work on that street, so the cause of these phenomena is uncertain.

Before he became a Councilman, Mr. Dory was a fairly average, though successful, small-scale smuggler through Tannoril. He once had a brand of exile on the backs of both his hands, though the marks appear to have faded since the onset of his skin condition. No one now remembers where the brands were from or how he earned them.

A week or two back, it is reported, unknown intruders broke into Mr. Dory's home and murdered the Councilman. These rumors have not yet been confirmed. If they are true, Tannoril's Council is strangely unconcerned about solving the murder, for no one has raised a stir as might be expected following the murder of such a prominent local politician.
