We know that one can be very attached to a character. However, life must go on, and only fate can decide when any person shall die. Therefore, the following rules are in effect at all times, regardless of your level, race, wealth, or position in the world. If the worst happens to you, please do not attempt to bargain with the PGM. Although we want you to live forever, or until the universe explodes in your face, we must be impartial. It would not be fair to you, to other players, or to us to decide who lives or dies. ---- **__Bleeding Rules__** - **Unconsciousness (0 to -9 Stamina Points):** The character falls unconscious. An unconsciousness character automatically recovers 1 stamina a round until they return to consciousness. __First Aid__, __Medicine__, __Healing Potions (Mundane/Magical)__, or __Magical Healing__ can be used to regain stamina. - **Light Bleeding (-10 to -14 Stamina Points):** The character becomes comatose and suffers from blood loss. In light bleeding, a character loses 1 Stamina Point every round until stabilized. __First Aid__, __Medicine__, __Potions (Mundane/Magical)__, or __Magical healing__ can be used to heal and stabilize this character. If stamina regained through these methods heals to -9 or better, the character will regain stamina as in Unconsciousness. Otherwise, healing stabilizes a character and prevents further stamina loss from bleeding. - **Heavy Bleeding (-15 to -19 Stamina Points):** The player is in critical condition and loses 2 Stamina Points every round from blood loss. At this point, only __Medicine__, __Magical Potions__, or __Magical healing__ can prevent the character from slipping closer to death. If stamina regained through these methods heals to -9 or better, the character will regain stamina as in Unconsciousness. Otherwise, healing stabilizes a character and prevents further stamina loss from bleeding. - **Brink of Death (-20 Stamina Points or worse):** The character is terminal and sinking fast. A save vs. Endurance is required, with a -10 penalty each subsequent round the character goes unstabilized. A failure vs endurance means the player has died. Success means that the character still (barely) clings to life. __Magical Potions__ or __Magical healing__ can be used to stabilize those on the brink of death. Neither Medicine nor First Aid can stabilize a player in this condition. ---- ==**__Injury__**== When a character takes a large amount of damage from a single physical attack he may suffer an injury. Temporary Injury (15 Damage): Temporary Injuries, such as stunning blows, last for only a few rounds and require no healing. Long Lasting Injury (18+ Damage): Long Lasting Injuries can last hours to weeks. These injuries will also generally, heal on their own over time, though further healing is usually sought to speed up the process. A Long Lasting Injury can be healed through a single healing attempt that recovers stamina equal to, or greater than, the amount of damage done to inflict the injury. So, for example, a character that broke her arm from a 19 point blow must be healed by at least 19 points in a single healing for the injury to be fixed. The Divine priest spell Minor Miracle can also be used to recover from lasting injuries. ---- ==**__Resurrection__**== Once a character has died, that character no longer has control over his fate. This is a time when many players suddenly realize the value of friendships made in Parthos, for it is only through these friends that the character has a chance to return to life. If the character's friends decide to have that character resurrected, they must be prepared to pay a significant cost for it. Resurrection spells can only be obtained at temples with high-ranking priests who are capable of wielding such powerful magic. It is not possible to go into debt or offer a service in exchange for a resurrection; the price must be paid in full and in advance. For a character to be resurrected by a temple, he must be of at least the same general alignment tendency (Good, Evil or Neutral) or have earned a Character Note on his sheet indicating that he is favorably viewed by that temple. If he meets either of these qualifications, he may be resurrected. The character's friends must pay 3500 ss to the temple performing the resurrection. If the character is a Priest or Paladin of Level 15 or higher, the cost is only 2500 ss. If the character is in extremely good standing with that temple (this must be indicated by an earned Character Note), the cost is 3000 ss. After being resurrected, the character permanently loses 5 points of Endurance. If the character's Endurance pre-resurrection is 5 or lower, that character cannot be resurrected and is permanently dead. ---- ==__**Permanent Death and Retirement**__== - **Permanent Death:** A character who has run out of Endurance, lacks the resources to be resurrected, or whose body has been destroyed or abandoned is considered permanently dead. Additionally, a character who does not meet any of the above criteria may be designated “permanently dead,” after which he cannot be resurrected. - **Retirement:** A player may also choose to retire a character. That player must notify the GM staff of his intentions, after which the character becomes unplayable. Upon permanent death or retirement of a character who has reached at least Level 8, the player may create a new character starting at one half (1/2) the original character's level rounded down. The new character starts with 100 ss per new character level. The original character is forever gone and can never again be played. Use this option wisely. Abuse of this privilege will result in severe penalty. The following restrictions apply: 1. The original character must be at least Level 8. 2. The new character must be different from the original in Race and Class. 3. The player must write and post a story introducing the character. 4. The new character gains no special powers or benefits. The character may apply DPs to skills he purchases with his starting funds beginning at the level after the skill was able to be purchased. Note: Any noted outstanding debts a character has upon Permanent Death or Retirement may be collected from the items of the dead/retired character (if possible). Any attempt to abuse this policy will result in severe punishment. //**Development Points**// The character begins with 20 DPs per level above 1st in both Combat and General statistics and 20, 25, or 30 Skill DPs per level above 1st, depending upon Class. These allocations must be mailed to the GM staff for approval in Level Up format. For example, an 8th Level Warrior salvage character would start with 140 Combat DPs, 140 General DPs, and 140 Skill DPs. * (8 - 1) x 20 = 140 As an additional example, a 6th Level Rogue salvage character would start with 100 Combat DPs, 100 General DPs, and 150 Skill DPs. * (6 - 1) x 20 = 100 * (6 - 1) x 30 = 150 //**Explanation of Skill Purchases**// The salvage character gains 100 ss at each level. The character may purchase new skills with this money. However, the skills can only be raised by the amount of DPs the character would have had at the level after the skill was able to be purchased. For example, a 10th level salvage character would start with 1000 ss. However, he only has 100 ss at 1st Level, 200 ss at 2nd Level, and so forth. The character could buy Climbing (250 ss) at 3rd Level and be able to raise Climbing by, at most, 140 DPs. * (10 - 3) x 20 DPs = 140 //Example:// The player of Thewingol, a Level 20 Andaman Warrior, decides to retire his character. After contacting the staff, he creates Ciredain Larksong, a Level 10 Human Bard. Ciredain starts his career with 1000 ss and 180 Combat, General, and Skill DPs. ''*''//Note:// In all cases, the character file will receive a note stating that it has been permanently retired, the date of retirement, whether or not the salvage option has been used, and what character was created by the salvage process.
