Wraith, Common
Appearance: Wraiths appear in many forms; the variety of their guises, and the close resemblance between wraiths of vastly different power levels, causes much confusion and woe among those who encounter them. "Common" wraiths most often appear as freestanding shadows of the forms they held in life, or else as hunched, elongated, or otherwise distorted human forms wrapped in shrouds of darkness. They may have burning pinpricks of light in place of eyes, but just as often do not.
Known Behaviors: Wraiths exist in perpetual misery. They are barely sentient. Having lost all memories of who they were and what they loved in life, all that is left to them is hate and gnawing envy. Their resentment of all who can still feel joy leads them to attack the living at every opportunity. Very rarely, wraiths may be persuaded to aid a stronger evil creature -- usually undead -- in its endeavors, but generally their obedience can be had only through magical compulsion.
