Character Creation
So, like any other reasonable person, you've decided that you'd like to give our game a try. Well, here's the first step: creating your character.
Because Parthos employs a template system, the choices that you make here will determine all of the statistical aspects of your character (at least, until you begin to advance). However, you ought not to feel restricted: the seventeen classes, nine races, and countless religions described here represent only a fraction of Parthos' rich diversity. Even two elven, longsword-wielding paladins of Athyria can be played in vastly different ways. In that spirit, let the truly defining aspect of your character—the personality—guide your choices here.
-
Class
Your class determines most of your capabilities, from the spells you can cast to the skills you can learn.
-
Race
Your race also has a large influence over your stats—elves are swifter and lighter than orcs, for example. However, as evidenced by the proverbial stubbornness of dwarves and jollity of halflings, your race can also have a large influence over your personality.
-
Alignment
Alignment is a helpful indicator of your character's moral and social values. It is more important for Priests and Paladins than for other classes, but all characters are expected to adhere to the basic principles of their alignments most of the time.
-
Religion
Again, this aspect is primarily of import to Priests and Paladins, and many characters opt for atheism. However, religion can provide a valuable roleplay tool for a character of any class.
-
Skills
Skills represent your character's areas of expertise. Perhaps you have a penchant for picking pockets and locks; perhaps you go in for more upstanding pursuits. Either way, choosing your skills is a good opportunity to flesh out your character. Be sure to specify which skills you're selecting as Professional Skills.
-
Weapons
Everybody loves weapons! In light of this, each character automatically starts with one hand-to-hand and one missile weapon. Make sure that your choices are at or below the BC maximum for your class and race. For example, a Rogue cannot start with a weapon larger than BC8. If you start out with a weapon that is in two different weapons categories, please specify which you would like for your Weapon Proficiency. (For example, the Short Sword can be used by those with WP:Short Blades, and those with WP:Medium Blades).

-
Knowledge
The Knowledge section contains different areas of study. Knowledge skills represent in depth knowledge your character may have on any one subject, be it from first-hand experience or through scholarly research. Characters without specialized knowledge skills may still be familiar with different topics, but not at the same depth as someone having the skill. Characters at creation are granted 1KP worth of knowledge. This may be saved to purchase higher KP knowledge skills in the future.
-
Languages
Finally, we come to the most self-explanatory of choices: these are the languages that your character can speak.
Once you've made your selections, just email PGM Crossus (PGMCrossus@gmail.com) with the subject “Character Creation,” and he'll do the rest. Your character should be ready for play within a week.
