Caradon

The White Elk, Guardian of Meadows, Keeper of Caves

An enigmatic and reclusive god, Caradon rarely makes himself known to mortals and has only a small following. His domain lies in forests and mountains; oak groves and ancient trees serve as his holy places. Though he is a sylvan god, Caradon has no interest in wildernesses outside his chosen forests, and he does not protect anything beyond the invisible but carefully delineated boundaries of his lands.

When he chooses to let himself be seen, Caradon appears either as a majestic white elk or as a gray bearded but still-vigorous man wearing green and gray robes and carrying a gnarled deadwood staff. He never speaks, and can be either kindly or cruel; Caradon has been known to aid some lost travelers and to call down lightning's fury upon others, seemingly at random.

Some theorize that Caradon is a very old god, and one who understands humans as poorly as they do him. Others believe that he is not truly a god at all, but a powerful and eccentric guardian of the northern forests. The few worshipers that he claims are chiefly druids, though a few scouts and beastmasters pay him homage. If his followers understand the god's nature better than others, they have never cared to explain it.
