With the fall of Vir and the corresponding collapse of the armies that had held them at bay, many of the savage creatures that had previously been penned up in the wild lands around the Cathilcarn Mountains' northern reaches have been emboldened. Among these are the Bloodtusk Orcs, a large and aggressive tribe that has been expanding its territory steadily north and west since the hillmen destroyed Vir.
In recent months, Bloodtusk scouts and raiding bands have been spotted in Calantyr, and a few scattered attacks have already begun testing the defenses of villages on Earl Wrymeade and Viscount Poynshire's eastern borders. Trappers in the Tidemarshes say they have seen scouts infiltrating the Saltmire as well, perhaps seeking an unguarded route into the heartlands.
The Bloodtusks are known to keep goblins and kobolds as frontline fodder. They have hobgoblin and ogre allies as well, although the strength of these alliances is unknown. Some claim to have seen giants fighting for the Bloodtusks; however, if this is so, it does not appear to be a regular occurrence and may have been a temporary bargain.
Unusually for orcs, the Bloodtusks will sometimes spare vanquished enemies, offering them their lives in exchange for a fixed period of service and an oath not to raise weapons against the Bloodtusks again. These bargains are sealed by the Bloodtusks' elder shaman, who is reputed to be a Baozite priest of substantial power. Those who have sworn an oath of surrender to the Bloodtusks are occasionally asked to fight for them, but more often are sent back into human lands to carry out subtler plots. The fact that they are capable of such intrigues -- and frequently successful with them -- indicates that the Bloodtusks' chieftain must be an orc of uncommon intellect.
