The druid Bensozia is one of the most enigmatic figures in the Coeur's underworld. She was once human, it is said, but has not been so for a very long time. As her person and personality have grown increasingly strange, the Blind Ravens as a whole have developed a reputation for alien eccentricity.
In the beginning, Bensozia was fascinated by the interplay between plant and animal, specifically in the narcotic and hallucinogenetic properties of drugs and certain poisons. The Blind Ravens were founded more as a mystical cult devoted to the spiritual exploration of drugs than as a straightforward criminal-business organization.
Bensozia taught, and her followers believed, that through drugs it would be possible to achieve a state of transcendental awareness similar to, but infinitely greater than, the revelations glimpsed through dreamsmoke. The Blind Ravens' name was a homage to the mythical ravens said to see the future and guide spirits in the gods' realms. For them, criminal trafficking was merely a means of financing the gardens and laboratories needed to perfect their tools.
At some point, the Blind Ravens' beliefs shifted to the stance that narcotics did not, in fact, offer an alternative path to transcendence, but were instead a false road that led seekers of enlightenment astray by promising a perfumed, poisoned dreamworld that was not the true spiritual realm. Bensozia began to experiment with ways to manipulate the human mind through drugs, refining and rarifying her arsenal into extraordinary precision. Meanwhile, the Blind Ravens' trafficking continued to expand, making them one of the wealthiest groups in the city. Their decidedly cultist overtones prevented them from tending to the basic necessities of self-protection and information-gathering, however, and so they came to rely upon Devora's Silverpaws to provide these protections.
Only Bensozia knows what the Blind Ravens' ultimate goals are. Most denizens of the Coeur's underworld treat the guild gingerly, since they are by far the best suppliers of the street drugs that sell so profitably in the city, but keep away from their cultist strangeness.
