Guard Commander Barten Teflin
Barten Teflin is, as his name alludes, a relative of the Duke of the Couer, albeit a distant one. A cousin twice removed and from a line of Teflins possessing far less influence and prosperity. Still, a Teflin is a Teflin and there is little doubt that Barten has not had some advantage from his powerful cousin.
Guard Commander Teflin is a polarizing figure within the Couer. He is devoutly religious, a follower of Ahlrigh and has been instrumental in assisting the temples in the execution of the Edicts. There are many who see Barten as somewhat of a figurehead and pawn, although a dangerous and severe one. He is widely known to be celibate and has handed down draconian sentences to any who slight his noble prestige or denigrate the glory of the Lawgiver.
Given these facts, it was somewhat of a curiosity when the Duke chose him to be the next Guard Commander. Several other noblehouses groused at the slight and it is certain the the Duke's power is assured enough to not need another Teflin, particularly Barten, in a position of power. These initial anxieties have eased with the passage of time as Barten has been shown to be more interested in the pursuit of demons and necromancers than the triflings of mere mortal crimes.
