Finally there is a means of protection without intent to kill. Being female, born in 1953, I immediately assume that women, children and the elderly were not the driving force to restrict and make it illegal or restricted in certain sates and cities to obtain and possess stun guns and pepper spray. The elderly, the disabled, women and children are the citizens who need protection most will now need to obtain a gun and a gun permit in these states and cities to have personal protection weapons. Good luck with that. Keep in mind that when used, the firearm gun is assumed to be absolute death. For the woman who protects herself and her children, the small business owner, the disadvantaged, and the elderly, the same group that the pushed for restrictions and that made stun guns illegal will be the same group that will imprison the victim for protecting themselves and their loved ones when the offender dies as a result of deadly force using a conventional firearm gun.
Use of the stun gun on the other hand is a means to get to safety. Only in very rare occasions does the use of a stun gun result in death. The deaths I remember were the result of excessive use of force by a select few police personnel, who would have used excessive force with other instruments at hand, be it clubs, fists, boots or firearms. The excessive force epidemic is not the police agencies, or the weapons of choice for the greatest majority of those who possess personal protection products. The epidemic is violence in society, and the mentality and perception of the aggressor. These types of individuals are present in every small town, every large city, in many schools, in the work place and yes, even in those places that should always be a safe haven.
Our society in general turns their heads to ignore many of the injustices that occur. The good old boys mentality is not isolated to the south. The good old boys mentality is no longer isolated just toward race. It is ever-present in our daily lives. The sad truth is that this type of mentality has infected society. We should demand prosecution of those who violate our rights. We should never accept this perception to be just a part of every day life. Well, excuse me, but it is never acceptable. By society's allowance of this perception and behavior, the violence toward race, women, children, elderly, those not deemed to be part of their group, those less fortunate or those that are more frail and easily targeted will continue to be victims.
I personally want my right to protect myself with protection products that are designed not to kill, but only to disable a perpetrator so that I, the victim can get to safety and avoid prosecution for intent to kill.
A number of cities and states have restrictions on sizes, strengths, and types of pepper spray, and stun devices. If you have a question, it is wise to check with your local city or state attorneys office. You must be 18 years old or older to purchase defense sprays and stun devices in states and cities that allow purchase and possession.
