Airk Silver hails from the island nation of Palmos in the western Meditran Ocean. Palmos thrives from its abundance of natural resources, but has no economy. The inhabitants of Palmos, Palmians, are mostly humans, elves, half-elves, and surprisingly a tranquil race of goblins. The island itself has a tropical climate with an abundance of beasts and vegetation. Palmians are trained to live off the land. A standard custom when killing a beast for meat is to make use of all its body parts (e.g. the stomach becomes a canteen and the bones are crafted into utensils or jewelry). The more skilled inhabitants are able to extend this courtesy to plant-life. Palmians are isolationists that rarely involve themselves in the affairs of the eastern and western continents. The more adventurous develop into gifted sailors that travel the world. However, law prevents the usage of a true name while in foreign lands, which gives rise to aliases for those that journey from Palmos. Those who leave Palmos rarely return.
Airk is one of three children, having a younger half-brother, Mist, and half-sister, Luna. His father, Leofal, is an elf that serves as a counselor and mediator for the Palmians. His elf mother died in an unfortunate misunderstanding with visitors from the mainland. Airk and his father lived together for several years before he fell in love again, but with a human woman, Diane. She gave birth to a boy and a few years later a girl. Airk never got along with Mist, finding him impatient and childish. However, he had a soft spot for Luna that was evident in his overprotectiveness of her. Mist grew tired of the simple life and left the island in search of adventure. His departure further strained the relationship that the brothers shared. Luna became depressed for the next few years until one day she urged Airk to look for their brother. Airk agreed, mostly because he was worried for his sister’s health, but partly because he missed the niche in his life that his brother filled.
