How about an pronunciation guide?

I think I'm more comfortable living with the idea that nobody will ever say any of these names aloud ever.

EVER.

If they are reading an audio book, I think they have bigger problems.

Kristen A. Lycett "Kristen: Border's Employee" (Baltimore, MD) - See all my reviews

Reminiscent of George RR Martin's series "A Song of Ice and Fire", this book brings to life a myriad of realistic, like-able characters in a medieval, war-torn setting. This books depends a little more heavily on magic than Martin's series, but does so without making light of the character's struggles, or making the story less interesting. The creation of the setting and history of the realm is well done, and makes me want to read more about it, and the characters introduced in the book.

What is the exact date the book hits the shelves?

If requests are put in soon, how long for the discount vouchers to come in?

One thing that did strike me, in hindsight — except for Odosse, all your viewpoint characters were relatively seasoned and worldly. A lot — perhaps most — fantasy authors seem to choose an inexperienced, naïve character, such as a child or a country bumpkin, as the lead for clear reasons — they can act as a surrogate for the reader, who is equally ignorant about the world. (Or at least fantasy authors seem to choose innocent characters as their leads for the first novel or two in a setting.) It's clearly easier to ease a reader into a world when you can just have Ye Olde Mentor or other people the lead meets along the way explain How Things Work as the book goes on. Also, when your lead character isn't wise and knowledgeable it's easier to keep secrets from the reader and thus spring them in the final climax.

And yet I thought you did a good job controlling how much readers knew about the world and easing them in without that crutch — though as someone extremely familiar with the general trappings of the world I'm not sure how good a judge I am on that point.

Does this mean an actual person posted a review before any of my ringers? Y'all are some slackers.

Book comes out officially next Tuesday, March 9. I plan to spend my week watching Cas blow up geth and in denial that it exists.

So far it's not (yet) failing miserably. The publisher's gone back for a second printing, and it's not even on shelves yet, so that's pretty cool. Yesss more expectations to disappoint when the next one bombs!

p.s. started working on Book 3 last week. The tentative proposals are:

3: Eltanir Teglessin SL (which was never finished in the Parth-version so I guess I'm just doing it in this form);

4: The Hillmen and Vir (somewhat modified).

At this rate it's just a matter of time until I convert Plompo the item-burping hamster statue into a story idea ahahaha oh god what am I doing.

On the plus side, Mass Effect is what the kids would call the "Bee's Knees".

Also, seems the, erm... *three* copies I *accidentally* ordered all shipped yesterday, so good times. I know what some folks are getting for Christmas now.

My review was already up.... only here. I would post that on Amazon.com or somesuch, but I doubt any one outside these forums would understand the meaning of such of a review.
